Professional, Compassionate Care Senior Cats and Dogs

senior pet care

Keeping an older pet healthy can be challenging. Especially once your animal companion reaches the age of 7, it becomes increasingly important to pay closer attention to health issues and risks commonly associated with senior dogs and cats. The veterinarians of Black Creek Veterinary Hospital offer custom programs of wellness and preventative care to help you make the most of your pet’s golden years.

Senior wellness care depends greatly on the unique nature and behaviors of each individual pet. Factors such as pre-existing medical conditions, mobility issues, activity level, and environment will always inform the decisions we make in order to best care for your animal companion.

Senior Pet Wellness

Generally, we recommend that senior pets receive a physical exam and health evaluation at least once every year, sometimes twice yearly for very old or at-risk patients. Each visit will consist of a through examination to look for any changes in your pet’s physiology such as hair loss, dental issues, skin conditions, and signs of disease or discomfort.

A wellness exam may also be supplemented by geriatric blood work, as recommended by your veterinarian, to keep tabs on organ function and ensure that your companion’s internal systems are all in good working order. This is also a good way to monitor the status of any medications your pet may be receiving and keep an eye out for possible side effects. We’ll also provide updates to any and all vaccinations to maintain a strong immune system that will keep your friend healthy in these later years.

What really makes the biggest difference is that our veterinarians will always take time to give you and your companion the special attention you both deserve. We strive to listen to each and every concern, and will be more than happy to make recommendations on foods, supplements, exercises, and effective strategies for keeping your senior pet healthy and comfortable.

Please give us a call if you have any questions or if you’d like to request an appointment for your senior pet at Black Creek Veterinary Hospital .
